Associate Counsel


About this role

We’re hiring an Associate Counsel for a global pharmaceutical to join their team. This is an exciting opportunity to kickstart your career in the Life Sciences industry.

The Associate Counsel will assist the Senior Counsel in managing day-to-day legal matters, strategies and tactics associated with the company’s operations in Canada. This dynamic position will provide broad based legal support services to the company’s Canadian commercial, medical, regulatory and related business functions.


  • Support Senior Counsel and Senior Compliance Manager on general compliance matters related to appropriate interactions with patients, health care professionals (HCPs) and public office holders, and drafting/reviewing relevant HCP contracts such as consultancy services agreements, advisory board agreements, and funding and sponsorship agreements
  • Assist Senior Counsel in carrying out reviews of promotional and non-promotional material for compliance with applicable laws, regulations and industry compliance codes
  • Provide support on sourcing activities, including drafting and reviewing commercial vendor services agreements
  • Assist Senior Counsel and Senior Compliance Manager on providing internal training sessions to staff across different functional areas on legal and compliance issues and updates to relevant legislation, regulations and industry codes of conduct
  • Support the continuous improvement of legal and business processes to promote efficiency



  • Licensed lawyer practicing in Ontario, member in good standing with the Law Society of Upper Canada and a law degree from a recognized law school or qualified to practice law by a provincial bar association in Canada
  • 2-3 years of law practice at a top law firm and/or experience working in a legal department of a company in a regulated industry
  • Experience in the life sciences sector reviewing promotional and non-promotional materials
  • General knowledge of regulatory and healthcare compliance issues, including interactions with healthcare professionals (i.e., IMC Code of Ethical Practices, anti-bribery/anti-corruption)
  • Excellent analytic, legal drafting, oral and written communication skills
  • Proven track record of ethical judgement, maturity, strategic planning, problem solving and decision-making
  • Ability to manage competing priorities while remaining self-aware of one’s own limits and when escalation of matters is required
  • Ability to work independently and with cross functional teams
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to develop strong relationships across all levels of the organization, a positive attitude, strong commitment to ethical conduct, thoughtfulness, as well as collaboration and creativity
