You communicate effectively at all levels and with individuals and groups from different disciplines, industries and governmental agencies.

The Marine Assurance, HSSE & Compatibility Coordinator is a pivotal role for this company’s global business. In this role you will ensure that all maritime risk is reduced through risk-based operational, assurance, HSSE and Ship-Shore Compatibility activities. Your focus is across all aspects of the marine value chain to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient global LNG business operations.

Your communication/reporting skills must be excellent as you will have regular contact across all parties, including the local marine team at operated terminals, commercial operations personnel, company marketing and business development functions.

Externally, your contacts will include LNG fleet managers, owners/operators for terminals, tugs, bunker vessels, lightering and STS support vessels and shipyards.

The position is based mainly in Houston, TX but you will travel domestically (and occasionally internationally) to projects and key industry events such as USCG, SIGTTO and OCIMF.

Broad Duties

  • Providing maritime assurance advice on the condition and operational quality and safety of vessels employed in the transportation of hydrocarbons (LNG, bunker fuels) worldwide, identifying remedial actions with respective fleet managers as required
  • Monitoring and follow up of Vetting requests in the company tracking system, proactively reviewing PSC Inspection reports, SIRE reports, Incident Reports for LNG Carriers and Bunker vessels as they arise
  • Maintaining the worldwide terminal database and developing the Ship/Shore compatibility database in support of the company’s global trading pattern.
    Producing monthly reports covering all HSSE and Marine Assurance activities
  • Following-up HSSE incidents and/or operational events on company-chartered and customer-nominated vessels

As in all critical maritime roles, you will be implementing all industry and regulatory standards and meeting all company quality assurance standards. You’ll participate in emergency drills with ship managers, owners and terminals to ensure that an effective response can be available for any marine-related incident.

You’ll need good report writing skills, must be organized and able to manage multiple activities and programs. As well as exceptional problem solving and analytical skills, you’ll have an eye for detail (auditing skills are highly beneficial).

And throughout you’ll promote a positive safety culture.

About you


  • Bachelor or Associate degree in Maritime Transportation, Maritime Logistics, Engineering or relevant technical discipline or equivalent work experience.
  • STCW 95 Class Three Deck or Engine with experience of LNG carrier or oil tanker operations is preferred
  • Minimum 18 months years maritime experience required in Junior rank onboard Gas or Oil tankers preferred (but a combination of working at LNG Terminal ship/shore interface and USCG is a valid
  • Experience of International and National marine assurance processes e.g. SIRE and USCG CoC is beneficial.

Professional Competencies

  • Skilled understanding of all facets of hydrocarbon liquids transportation, storage and processing including detailed knowledge of the LNG value chain.
  • Skilled understanding of International and National Regulations pertaining to all aspects of operations, of LNG terminals and vessels including relevant CFRs.
  • Knowledge and experience of OCIMF Marine Assurance processes.
  • Skilled understanding and detailed knowledge of Ship-shore compatibility for LNG Carriers.

As with all maritime work, flexibility outside of office hours may be necessary to fulfill assignments. Communications may be required during weekends, holidays, and after hours.

You must be able to comfortably board various types of vessels via a gangway or ladder, and have
experience doing so.

Safety requirements take priority for moving between vessels and terminal facilities.

You will work mostly indoors and occasionally outdoors. There’s all types of weather conditions, the ocean coastal environment, noise, and occasionally spurious process gases and vapors.

You’ll also need a valid passport for occasional company-assigned travel, domestically and between foreign countries.
